Construction trailer is a term often used to describe an automobile-type vehicle that has been converted to carry construction equipment.
The term was first used by the United States Department of Transportation in its Federal Construction and Safety Administration (FCCSA) Technical Bulletin, October 1991, as a general definition of a trailer.
The term construction trailer has since been used to refer to various types of vehicles.
The most commonly used construction trailer is the vehicle itself, although other forms of construction trailers may also be used.
Construction trailers are generally equipped with a trailer bed, trailer rails, trailer wheels, a generator, a diesel generator, or a generator to run an electric motor, water pump, or other power source, or with a hydraulic power source to drive the wheels.
Construction trailers can be fitted with an electric drive unit (EDU), diesel engine, or generator to produce electricity.
The following sections discuss the types of construction equipment a construction vehicle can carry.
