Construction is finally beginning on a $15 million, $200 million building at South Lamar Boulevard and E. Lamar.
The project will replace a former office building on the site and will also include the construction of a four-story, two-story mixed-use building that will be called the Superior Construction.
The building, which is being built by Eman Construction and will include a retail, office and residential space, will be complete by the end of 2020.
Construction is expected to begin in spring 2018 and will take a total of three years.
The company plans to complete the building by 2019.
“The project is a significant step forward in our efforts to revitalize the South Lamar corridor and is a testament to the commitment of the community to our city’s economic vitality and to the quality of life in this area,” said Steve Atencio, president of Eman Properties.
The Superior Construction is the largest project of its kind in Texas, according to a company statement.
The Austin Community College District and South Lamar Regional Chamber of Commerce are the sponsors of the project.
“We are thrilled to be the first community group in the state to receive the designation of a sponsor of the Superior Development,” said Tom Rufino, president and CEO of the Austin Chamber of the Arts.
“This is a great example of community partnerships in this rapidly evolving and innovative industry.”
